Dr. Christine Human, Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering
Dr. Human received her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Manchester, UK, in 1982. She completed both her Masters and Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley, in geotechnical engineering in 1986 and 1992 respectively. In 2003 she began working for the University at Buffalo as a professor in the civil, structural, and environmental engineering department. Her research specializes in geomechanics and geotechnical engineering. Geomechanics, studies structural features and reactions including deep foundations, ground improvement, seismic response of soils, retrofit of foundations, liquefaction, slopes, dams, and retaining walls. From 2001 to present Dr. Christine Human has been the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Civil Engineering Program. She is also the SEAS Associate Dean for Accreditation and Student Affairs. Additionally Dr. Human is involved with various student organizations. She is the faculty advisor of the UB SWE, Society for Women Engineers Student Section, as well as a faculty board member for WiSE, Women in Science and Engineering.
